Shrutiश्रुति
The smallest audible pitch interval recognized in Indian music theory, finer than a semitone.
Classical theory divides the octave into 22 shrutis, though performance practice works with the familiar 12 semitones — “shruti” is also used loosely to mean the tonic pitch (Sa) a performer or instrument is tuned to, as in a “shruti box” (see Sur Peti).
