Saptakसप्तक
An octave — the interval between one Sa and the next Sa, up or down.
Hindustani notation marks which saptak a note belongs to: mandra (lower octave, marked with a dot below the note), madhya (middle octave, unmarked) and taar (upper octave, marked with a dot above or an apostrophe, e.g. S’).
